How to Teach Your Cat to Spin!

Training your cat to spin is a fun, beginner friendly trick that builds coordination and focus. It’s also adorable to watch and easy to practice in short sessions!

You’ll Need:

• a high value treat
• your cat
• a clicker (highly recommended!)
• a few minutes of patience

Do It!

1. Hold a treat close to your cat’s nose.
2. Slowly move the treat in a small circle to one side, guiding their head and body around.
3. As soon as your cat completes the circle, say ‘spin’ and click!
   (if not using a clicker, reward immediately.)
4. Repeat a few times, always rewarding the full spin.

Tips:

• Keep sessions under 5 minutes to avoid frustration, try multiple sessions daily
• Practice in a quiet, familiar space
• Use a high value treat, this means that it isn’t a treat your cat receives often
• Start with one direction, then teach the opposite direction later

Note:

Spin is a great foundation trick! Once your cat understands following a lure, you can teach tricks like figure 8, weave, or even dance!
