How to Teach Your Cat to Sit!

Training your cat is so fun and rewarding! Sit is a simple trick that helps with focus and good manners.

You’ll Need:

• high value treat
• your cat
• a clicker (highly recommended!)
• a few minutes of patience!

Do It!

1. Hold a treat above your cat’s nose.
2. Slowly lift it over their head (many cats will naturally sit to follow the treat).
3. As soon as they sit, say ‘sit!’ and click! (if not using a clicker, give a treat right away)
4. Repeat a few times each session

Tips: 

• Keep sessions under 5 minutes to avoid frustration, try multiple sessions daily
• Practice in a quiet, familiar space
• Use a high value treat, this means that it isn’t a treat your cat receives often

Note:

Once your cat masters sit, you can build on it for so many other tricks, like spin and high five!
